Both have benefits and both have drawbacks. Running is more vigorous and burns more energy and fat, but also can be harder on the body, causing knee or foot damage. Walking is better for knees and feet, but you must walk further and longer to match the effects of running.

Both are beneficial. Power walking and Runnning will help reduce blood pressure over time, and another great benefit: it's a great stress reliever. Many runners get what is called "runners" or "Jogger's" high. The same benefit can be acquainted with walking. Before you start any walking or exercise routine, make sure to check with your physician.

Since there are potentially more injuries that can occur from runnning, the long term health benefits of walking may in fact be superior, particularly regular walking at a brisk pace.
