Question by  Halloraib (42)

Why would a Crown Victoria hesitate when at 45 MPH during an acceleration?

My car only hesitates while accelerating and only at 45 MPH.

A Crown Victoria can hesitate from two different common things at 45MPH under a load: 1) The transmission could be dropping or kicking a gear at that speed or, 2) more than likely, it engine is misfiring due to a spark plug boot being cracked or worn.

The fuel injectors may need to be cleaned. There may be an issue with your transmission, your car may be having difficulty shifting into a higher gear. Have a mechanic check your fuel pump as well.

Well it could be an engine or transmission issue. Since it happens at a certain speed and not under hard acceleration then you probably have a problem in the transmission like a slipping clutch of a dying modulator. I would have a professional check it out.

It could be that your car is switching gears and there isn't a quick response. It could also be that the clutch is worn out.

There may be something wrong with your transmission, when the car shifts into another gear. I'd recommend a tune up, clean the air filter, fuel injectors, spark plugs etc.

It's most likely just a rapid shift in RPM or acceleration. It's typical and nothing at all to worry about. You might consider either changing fuel types if it's annoying, if you're feeling "shaking" this might actually be a problem and you should consult either a licensed mechanic or take it to your dealership.
