There are actually quite a few varieties of English Ivy. Breeders will select for certian traits and this does not always mean an easy to grow plant for the common person. Try a diffrent strain.

You are being impatient. Let the plant have enough time to establish some roots so that it can properly grow. You may also try some fertilizers. They are very helpful and can help with new growth. Be sure to cut back any unwanted growths off the main stalk so it can continue growing healthily.

Test your soil. Some time the climatic change may cause this problem.Other facilities like water, sunlight and space needed for its growth should be given importance.First you must give personal attention in the first few days till your Ivy grows and adjust to the environment.Check all these.

At first the English Ivy take a while to grow. Granted once growing has started they spread rabidly. But at first you are going to have to wait, this process takes a while. So try not to be impatient, these are very easy to grow, just takes more time then others.

English Ivy needs to be planted in well-drained soil. They need to be trimmed to prevent bacterial growth or sprayed with insecticidal soap to control mites.

English Ivy needs specific conditions to grow. Move you ivy to an area that has full sun, plant at least 6 inches, and make sure the area drains very well.

English Ivy is very difficult to start. It takes a long time to grow. Once started it will travel. If it doesn't grow at first planting, then, repeat, repeat, repeat. Myrtle is easier, faster growing and spreading. It has shiney, green leaves and makes a beautiful ground cover.
