To promote English Ivy growth each year you need to cut back one third of the vine's growth. This will ensure heavier growth. You can also apply a high nitrogen fertilizer to the plant such as 18-8-8. Make sure to thoroughly water the English Ivy after each time you fertilize.

These plants like filtered sunlight. Let ivy dry a little between waterings and mist often. Keep plant in a constant temperature. Keep "leggy" stems cut back and fertilize as directed.

The best way that I know is to use Jobes Plant spikes and water globes that way the plant only get water when it needs it not when you think it should need it.

Cut a stem of English Ivy and place leafless stem in a jar of water and place in a sunny window. Make sure water does not evaporate. After a good root system has taken hold on Ivy stem, plant stem in a moist soil, preferably shaded.

It is an easy growing plant. Partial shade is good. Water periodically. Keep trimming to give it a neat, shaped look. You can pinch the end of the plant and start a new plant.

Summer heat has a negative effect on English ivy, so do not plant in full sun unless you cover it with a plant cloth the first two growing seasons. Do not encourage plants to vine up something with a southern exposure. The soil should be slightly alkaline and well drained. Plant at least three to four inches deep.
