By winter, the English Ivy should have spread pretty quickly. Just remember to prune back some of the stems and then the plant will fill out by Spring.

English Ivy general takes a few months to start to spread and depending on the size of the fence it could take between 2 and 3 years to thoroughly cover a fence.

It will grow faster if it faces the sun and you used fertile soil, with compost or fertilizer. Once it starts growing it will take off in no time.

It needs to establish a good root system, dry molasses can help. Rule of thumb is 8 weeks to establish a growing plant, and then it may take 3 seasons to get a really well-growing coverage plant. Rome wasn't built in a day and this IS a fast grower.

It will take you English Ivy 3-4 years to really take hold. Beware that once it starts to really grow it will spread and will begin to strangulate the plants around it.
