sometimes collected water and clothes fibers collect in crevices just under the lid and begin to mildew, you can also check the trap of the drain that your machine drains into the same thing can happen there too.

Some washing machines have a rubber lip or parts that are almost hidden and trap moisture. Mildew and mold can cause odor. The odor can be controlled by wiping the inside out with hot water and running clorox bleach on a hot cycle for at least a total of 45 minutes.

The most common cause is the leftover water from the last washing, it may be due to a pump malfunction so that the water after washing stayed in the machine even if you emptied your machine. It does not matter if the water is dirty or clean after it stays long in your machine it will result in bad odor.

After the wash cycle is completed, leave the door opened so excess water can evaporate. This will eliminate any musty or mildew smells from the unit. You can also use a washing machine cleaner found at most appliance retail stores to handle any smells directly caused by the clothing being washed.
