Why is the law that draft sign up starts at age 18?

I do not understand why you have to be 18 to sign up for the draft.

The law doesn't consider anyone under the age of 18 to be an adult. Since the form where you sign up for the draft is a legal document, a minor cannot enter into the agreement. Thus, since you have to be an adult in order to register for selective service, you have to be 18.

The law that currently stands for conscription is Proclamation 4771, Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act, signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980. It is the most recent in a long list of similar laws. Registration in the selective services is active as a contingency plan for the military.

You must be the age of 18 for the draft law. This is because when you are younger you supposedly aren't an adult yet, so you cannot make those kinds of decisions. You must be 18 (an adult) to vote also.
