Why is one breast not producing milk?

It could be that the baby is not emptying the breast completely or nursing on that side enough. It may also take more time for that breast to produce milk, as long as you have colostrum and the baby is growing keep an eye on it.

My consultant told me that the baby will always get more milk out of the breast than the pump will. I had trouble with my right breast doing the same. So she told me to put my daughter to my right every feeding and at the same time pump left.

Sometimes one breast will stop (or slow) milk production because the baby is favouring the other side. It is also possible for milk flow to be slowed or stopped because of compression, perhaps a diaper bag strap being worn against that breast, or a poorly fitted bra.

The breast that is not producing is not being latched onto well enough and not being used as much. Babies have a favorite side.

You may have a blockage in your milk ducts in the breast that is not producing milk. It's not a serious problem, and you don't need to do anything about it, but if you want to anyway, schedule an appointment with your family doctor.
