breastfeeding

Question by  wilsonace (129)

Do I need my breast milk if I miss a feeding?

I was not able to get home in time to breast feed my son and am concerned about what is going to happen with the unused breast milk.

You will feel you breasts full, and probably soared. It depends on how much milk you are producing. Your milk will leaks out of your breasts. Sometimes, it is necessary to pump your breasts with a special pump to feel relieve. If it's possible, you can pump yourself and keep the milk refrigerated until you get home.

It's not going to go anywhere. If you miss a feeding, you'll be able to feel it by the next feeding, your breasts will feel much more full than usual. Be ready for a heavy letdown when you do go to feed him again, because there's more stored in your breasts than usual.

If you have already expressed your milk (pumped and stored) is it good in the refrigerator for 48 hours. You can also freeze your milk and it is good for up to one month in the freezer (be sure to use sterile storage bags). You can also pump your milk no and store it for later.

You may be a little sore, but if you cannot pump your milk, don't worry about it. The body is prepared to deal with situations like this and he milk will be fine.
