The label on the can has the drying time. Most latex paints dry in an hour or less, depending on temperature and humidity. Oil and alkyd pants can take four hours or more to dry. Alkyd paint usually cures in 24 hours, whereas latex paint takes 2-3 weeks to cure.

Drying time for all paints is modified by the specific circumstances of the area the paint was used. Typically all paints should be completely dry within 1 to 2 days. Drying times are complicated by the amount of humidity and airflow as well as other factors. Try using fans and running the air conditioner to help it dry.

If you use an oil based paint the normal drying time for a glossy paint is about 24 hours for a good cure on it. One reason it could still be tacky is a high humidity where you are living or a very cold temperature, either of these can lead to extended drying times (1-3 days)

Is it enamel or latex? That would depend on the drying time, along with the weather. Hot days take longer to dry enamel. Usually 2 days. Latex usually dry fast. Did you paint over enamel or latex, that is another concern. Ask the paint store what to do. Maybe you used the wrong paint.

Gloss paint can take an entire day to completely dry. Of course in high humidity, this can take even longer.
