Is semi-gloss paint a good idea for a family room?

A better choice would be a satin or eggshell finish. Semi-gloss has a shiny appearance that may cause glare a on a TV screen. Semi-gloss also highlights any imperfections in walls. Satin and eggshell finishes are washable, just like semi-gloss, easy to apply and usually long-lasting.

Not really. Semi-gloss paint is typically used in bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, doors, and trim or moldings. Family rooms are typically a very active place for the family and you want a paint that easily hides imperfections. The slight shine associated with semi-gloss paint is not very forgiving.

Semi-gloss paint would certainly be acceptable for a family room situation. Certainly better than a gloss. However, and this is a preference on my part, I would rather use something with even less gloss than semi-gloss. I would look for something having a gloss value somewhere between a flat and a semi-gloss.

Yes it can be if you use your living room a lot. Semi gloss paint is easy to wipe down. Semi-gloss is very good if you have children who like to write on the wall. If you use a flat paint it tends to come off the wall if you wipe it.

I would think that semi-gloss would be a great idea for a family room. Semi-gloss has a smooth looking finish and it is washable, especially if you have little ones.

I think semi-gloss is definitely a better choice when you want to paint an area of your home where you do most of your living. It is much easier to clean than flat paint and I think looks better too.
