cats  why

Question by  worker4275 (175)

Why does my cat pee on my throw rug?

Answer by  mammakat (11147)

Your cat may be asserting territory and dominance. If you got the rug from someone else, he may be responding to prior pet smells. Something in the rug may have stimulated him to choose that site- however, once he does it, he will probably keep it up. Discard the rug.

It is most likely because you are not properly cleaning the litter box. It could also be a sign of dementia.

Some times the rubber padding on the back ofthrow rugs had a bit of an ammonia smell to it which will attract the cat. it could also be that the cat's litter is too full so it is looking for somewhere else to go.

Your cat thinks it's his territory and pees on the rug to claim space. Or maybe your cat feels comfortable in the room. Try to potty train your cat.
