Why does my 3800 Oldsmobile die after getting hot?

There could be a lot of reasons why this is occuring but the first items would be bad or fouled spark plugs, distributor, or distributor cap. Additionally, the wires can also be the source of the problem. I would also check a fuel filter as that could be clogged.

This is a governor protecting your vehicles engine from exploding, heating is one of the best ways to destroy an engine, you'll need to either keep your radiator full with water every time you drive, or replace the radiator all together. This could save you a busted engine and a lot of money in the long run.

There are several different possibilities that can cause this issue. It could be a fuel pump, ignition control module, or a crankshaft position sensor.

There could be a number of causes to the engine quitting after getting hot. The most common causes are going to be related to the sensors located around the intake. They monitor air temps coming into the engine and if they are reading wrong temps then the air to fuel ratio will not be right.

Too much overheating can destroy your engine. You will need to keep radiator full with water every time you drive it. Or replace radiator. Other problems could be the case. It could be bad thermostat, fuel pump, ignition control module, or a crankshaft position sensor.

I would say that this is probably an ignition module problem, this model has a history of them cracking over time with the vibration of the engine, then highe temperatures will cause some contractions of the connections, in turn giving you your stalling problem. changing this module will probably solve this problem.

It could be any one of a hundred things. Seems to be something in the electrical system. Best bet is to have a diagnostic run on it.

There may be two reason for the oldsmobile is not working properly. first may be the ign module is not working properly. And secondly the crank sensor which may be damaged. You hav to check that the ign coil is sparking or not. But the possibility is more for the crank sensor to fail.

If your car seems to be dieing a lot after it gets hot then you will need to replace your radiator.

Bad thermostat could be the cause, if it is not opening when it is getting hot enough, the engine can overhear. If you have enough coolant inside then that's where to look.
