Why do slasher movies scare the viewer?

The reason audiences are so terrified by this genre of movie is because these films play on the most vulnerable part of our imaginations. They show the viewer something that plays on the viewers worst fear. Therefore, it is hard for most to separate the real from the fake.

That is the point of them. A lot of those movies are intended to be bad and a lot of times even when they are not meant to be.
