Why are the singles figure skaters so much better than pairs?

Pairs are required to do everything in unison, including there aerial tricks. It is much more difficult for two people to do a quadruple axle at the same moment.

Single figure skaters are probably better because they work alone and do not have to worry about staying in sync with a partner.
