Who decides what films Disney will make?

The Disney corporation is broken up into many different production studios. For example, Pixar is their animation studio and Mirimax is their more adult (not the XXX kind) studio. Each division has a team of experienced producers, script readers, and directors who have years of experience making movies. These people read thousands of scripts and then pick the best ones.

Robert A. Iger is the current CEO who makes the important decisions on what films will be made, then there are the producers who have to financially back the film up along with guiding it to screen.

There are several executives and a design team that research ideas for story lines the Disney studio will make. Oftentimes Disney will base its movies on fairy tales or other classic pieces of literature. Sometimes they will remake old films using new technology and updated twists. There is a place on the Disney website where ideas can be submitted.

The films Disney decides to make goes through the same process as any other project that is made into a feature film. It all starts with an idea, proposing the idea to get the funding to develop it, and once the idea is developed,it is proposed once again to the movie company as a feature film. Money makes the decision.

It's a panel of judges of sorts which decide as with any company. They also need some director to be interested in the project and producers to fund it.

Usually a script or idea is proposed to a department handling potential projects. Bad ideas get filtered out, and good ones eventually make it to the studio head (not too long ago it was Michael Eisner) and he has the final say on whether a movie will get made or not.

The people who decide to make disney films are the executives and CEO's of Disney and Disney Pixar. The take ideas and requests and work them out until they come to a idea that is workable to put on film. The process is long and diffacult.
