Where is the coolant temperature sender location on a 1989 Ford.

It's not clear in the repair manual.

It is located underneath the water pump on the left side, near the drain outlet. It can be accessed with a 9/16 socket and extension with a swivel attachment on it. Don't over tighten it.

The coolant temperature sender depending on the model of ford will either be in the thermostat housing or the intake manifold.

In my experience with fords, they have been located on the coolant pipe that goes around to the rear of the motor on the passenger side.

The sensor is located on the top of the engine block, just to the right of the distributor (as you look at the engine from the front of the vehicle)
