Charizard is the last evolution in the Charmander family line obtainable when Charmeleon evolves at level 36. Charizard's pre-evolutions are available in Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, LeafGreen, HeartGold, and SoulSilver. Usually only obtained as a starter, in the newest Pokemon versions Charmander can be obtained through the Global Trade Station or as a late game reward.

You can obtain Charizard in FireRed and LeafGreen by picking Charmander as your starter. Otherwise, it is available toward the end of HeartGold and SoulSilver by picking Charmander as your reward for completing an in-game event. Otherwise, you can trade for it in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver through the Global Trade Service.
