When wiring a light switch, does the hot wire go through the switch?

Yes, the hot wire with the alternating voltage is the one that goes through the switch. The neutral and the ground wire should not go through the switch.

Well yes the hot wire does go through the switch. Without the hot wire you won't be able to get any light of the switch. Be careful when wiring however.

Yes, in a circuit containing a switch, the hot wire is connected through the switch to the load device. The other wire, the neutral, is carried straight through to the load and provides the return path for the electrical current.

Yes. It is the current in it that is regulated so that when switched off the continuity is disrupted and the lights go off.

Well the hot wire actually does go through the switch because it will provide the lighting later on. Also ensure that your neutral and ground wires are out of the way.

Yes it can be done for example the ceiling fan and light can also be wired through one switch for light but the fan would be hot all the time.
