When is the use of force necessary?

The use of force is necessary when it is a matter of life and death. For example if a police officer is telling a criminal to put his gun down and he refuses. The gunman points the gun at the policeman therefore the use of force is necessary to live.

The use of force is necessary to manage violence. It becomes necessary when protecting oneself or someone else or limiting the amount of pain or loss of life.
