My husband and I disagree.

I would say no later than 2. If he can walk/talk/use the bathroom on his own he shouldn't be sleeping with you on a regular basis. Remember that your protective intentions here could have any number of psycho-social consequences down the line.

Perhaps I am "old school" but I grew up sleeping in my own room and bed (or crib) from day one. I was never allowed to sleep in my parents bed even when it was stormy and scary outside. I was told to 'close your eyes' and you know, eventually I did fall asleep just fine.

When ever you think it's right, it's your experience and every kid is different. Enjoy every second with him, you will miss those days when he slept with you.

When my wife and I met, my step-son still slept in her bed at age 4. There is no "right" answer to the question, but my wife and I agreed on an age. We decided on the summer before my step-son started kindergarten. When a child starts school, that is a good time to teach independence.

If your husband feels uncomfortable sleeping with your son, whether it be because of your son's age, or the fact that your son is getting in the way of other things that happen in bed, it's time to move him to his own bed.

I would say that after the age of 3 or so a son should sleep by himself, not with his dad.

As a regular sleeping arrangement I wouldn't let it go past 1 or 2. We think our children should sleep in their own beds.
