Polyphasic sleep refers to experiencing multiple, shorter periods of sleep in a day rather than a typical approximately 8-hour stretch of sleep followed by a long awake period.

This means that your son sleeps multiple times in a 24 hour time period. It just means he has an irregular sleep wake pattern or a circadian sleep disorder condition. I would talk to your doctor about this and she if he/she is concerned about this or if its just cause your child is still small.
