How do I go about building a good father/daughter relationship?

The step-daughter will reject the step-father as a father figure unless the actual father was never known or their relationship is negative. Being a friend can lead to disrespect by the daughter. The step-father should be both a father figure and a friend by caring like a father and listening like a friend.

Being a good father is building trust and respect towards your daughter. Friendship is very important between a father and a daughter this is how you can build security and happiness. A father should not suspect his daughter about anything malicious and assume she is doing something wrong. Try talking to your daughter more often just like a friend does.

Personally, I feel like a step-father needs to find a fine line between being a father figure and just being a friend. You should just gain her trust as a friend and hopefully when she comes to respect you she will start to view you as a father figure in time.

talk to him and spend time with him, i think you both have to want it and just need to make plans together and this should bring you closer together, just do thing together
