This will depend in part on your body. Everyone is different and you may dilate sooner or later than other women. Most doctors begin to check for dilation around the 35 week mark.

This starts very close to deliver, mostly after you have gone into active labor. You will most likely be at the hospital; the doctor will measure how much you are dilated (ex. 1, 3, 7 centimeters). The process can take a few hours to many, depending, and you will deliver at about ten centimeters.

It varies from woman to woman. Sometimes there is a slight dilation of a centimeter or so during the last weeks of the pregnancy, especially if that person has already had a child. It's also normal for it not to happen at all until labor begins.

The pregnant woman's cervix normally starts to dilate soon before she goes into labor. In some cases, the cervix can dilate much earlier, which is often the case when a woman is pregnant with multiple fetuses. Cervical dilation does not always mean that a woman will go into labor immediately.
