The bad tooth could become abcessed. The decay can spread to your other teeth. Where your tooth is broken will be sore so it can make the surrounding teeth hard to care for without causing pain. If the tooth decays it can make the root infected and cause you much pain.

The worst thing that could happen is that you could develop an infection in your jaw where the root of the tooth was located. An infection like this can cause pain, secondary infections, and even death. Try looking for state programs for cheap dentists and get it taken care of.

A fractured, decayed tooth could lead to an acute infection. The infection may possibly get into the bloodstream. Although it does not occur often, that infection can lead to death.

Aside from being really painful and consequently very distracting to the rest of your life, there is the very real possibility that the broken tooth would become infected. If left untreated, this could easily spread to the rest of your body.
