Fresh raw chicken doesn't really smell of anything - if it is spoiled the smell is strong and obviously bad, a bit like off milk.

If chicken is fresh, it really shouldn't have much of a smell at all. Any odor even an unoffensive odor, may signal that the chicken is starting to spoil.

chicken that is slightly off does have a smell like bad ham it is not a strong smell, but it is not pleasant.
