The size of the hook depends on the thickness of the cord. In some cases, the cord and the hook will work together if they appear to be the same width. With smaller cord, medium sized hooks, like J for example, would be sufficient.

The size of the hook would depend on the size of the nylon cord, if it is small cord a "J" needle should work, but if it is the size of macrame cord, a very large size is needed, possibly a "M" or larger. The larger hobby stores usually have free on-line information to help you with your project.

G and H needles are common sizes but leave larger holes. A metal hook will produce smaller holes to make a purse more seamless.

This is dependent on the thickness of the cord and the gauge of the stitch desired. For using materials thicker than yarns, a K sized hook or larger is recommended.

The crocket hook size will vary depending on the size of the nylon cord. For most nylon cords, a 5mm crochet hook will work best.
