What should I know about framing tintype photos?

Framing a tintype photo is a little bit more difficult because the photo should not be covered with glass. Instead, you should use some form of plastic facing.

that is the dumbest thing Ive heard...dont use glass, but plastic??!! Wow.
If you glass it, have a space between the tin and the glass. Either use a mat or a spacer.  add a comment

There is nothing special to know, tintype photos can go with any frame. Try black laquered wood, it will contrast well with the sephia tone.

You do not want the tintype to touch glass. There are special frames with bubble glass that allow you to do this. You may also be able use a thicker mat that would keep the glass from touch the photo. A framing store should be able to help you frame your piece or sell you conservation quality framing materials.
