First, check with your pediatrician to rule out any physical issue that is causing pain with elimination. Sometimes your child just isn't ready for the change to the potty, and you just have to be patient. Using a fun, colorful potty on the floor just for child can take some of the fear of the "big toilet" from the experience.

You can try offering a reward. Could be a special food or toy. Really though, it is nothing you can force. They'll do it when they're ready and you don't want to punish them for not doing it. Just keep offering or suggesting when they need to poop.

When we were having problems with our children, we first of all practiced patience. It's hard to believe, but they will eventually do it! We used a chart and reward system, but remember that you have to be consistent for it to work. Also, we would only let them wear underwear; no pull-ups!

Potty training is a tricky thing. Based on my personnel experience I've noticed to try at first IF that does not work. WAIT the child will eventually figure out the wet sensation related to potting in their diapers. It will take time and you don't want to discourage the child by giving a negative experience.
