Remind them that this makes them a big kid. Tell them all the places they cannot go until they are potty trained. You may even reinforce this by not going on big kid play grounds, the pool, and other very fun places until they are toilet trained. Don't punish them, though.

First of all, it is almost certainly not a "refusal" to start using the potty. Every child matures at his or her own rate, and your little one is probably just not ready yet. Keep trying gently, but don't pressure. It will come naturally to him/her eventually.

Children will be children. There is no real age to potty train. If a child wants to they will let you know. Some signs to look for is the realization that they have soiled their diapers. Usually, this occurs around the age of 2-3. Once again though it does depend on the child.

Some drastic techniques include: letting the child go naked and dealing with the mess until it works; going with underwear and again dealing with the mess; putting on diaper tighter and tighter because the child is "growing to big for diapers"

With my son we gave him balloons after he went poo in the tiolet. We said it came from mr. Hanky. You could always try skittles as a reward too.
