What should I do about severe knee pain while walking up stairs or bending my leg?

Answer by  Az (343)

To immediately help the pain, try buying an ACE knee brace bandage. This will support your knee joint and enable you to walk and bend your leg with less pain. Also, try soaking in a hot tub with epsom salts. You might also want to try an OTC ointment, like Icy Hot. See a doctor as soon as you can.

Using a cane will reduce the workload on the knee on stairs. If the pain persists, the damage should be diagnosed by an orthopedic specialist.

First thing is see a doctor. Pain is a symptom that something is wrong and when it comes to joints, the longer you put off getting it looked at, the worse it can get. Try to stay off that leg as much as possible, and ice it if it swells.
