Answer by  lonelywolf (2117)

The main difference between a professional and an amateur is that professionals earn a living/make money from their work. Amateurs do it as a hobby or "for the love of it. " An amateur usually (but not always) performs at a lower level, but sometimes can exceed a professional.

An amateur is anyone who pursues a sport or study of something (e. g. playing a musical instrument, painting, crocheting) as a hobby or pastime. The crucial thing is that they do not do it in exchange for money or services. If you receive some kind of payment then you are a professional.
