Your refrigerator should not really need a surge protector. Usually you only use surge protectors on electronics or any appliance that would be detrimentally influenced by a surge of electricity. Refrigerators usually are not affected by this. Unless your refrigerator has a computer inside of it you should be perfectly fine plugging it directly into the wall outlet.

It all depends on the size of the refrigerator. I would get appliance surge protector. Make sure that no moisture get near or on it. I would hang it on the wall and plug the appliance into it.

A Belin Pivot Plug Surge protector will be a good one to try. I have used one for my computer at my vacation homes and it works really well. You can get one for under 30 dollars.
