How do I know what kind of turtle I have and what to feed it?

The turtle I found in Nevada has a dark shell with yellow stripes. Underneath is yellow with black spots, claws, long neck, black eyes. I need to know how to feed it and what kind it is. I don't even know how it got in my yard.

The turtle is probably a painted turtle. This type of turtle is fine eating pellets that you can by at pet stores or a pet section of a store.
