What kind of ant is red with black dots and rather large?

The most common kind of red ant is the fire ant, but instead of black dots the back body part is black.

There are over 1,200 different types of ants around the world. Some more common ants that may be red with black dots are going to be the Red Imported Fire Ant and the Carpenter Ant. If they are a problem it is suggested that you call a pest exterminator which will be able to indentify the ants.
