The kangaroo is a marsupial not a rodent. All female marsupials carry and take care of their young in pouches which are locate in front of the kangaroo. Pouches are only found on marsupials not rodents.
Kangaroo rats are seed eating rodents, genus Dipodomys. They do hop around like a kangaroo, which lead to their name, but they are not related to marsupials.
