Some pass on their own. A doctor may remove the kidney stone surgically with an instrument used for this purpose depending on the size of the stone or the doctor may use a laser to break the stone up. If your kidney is not functioning properly and full of stones, kidney may need to be removed. All are painful!

Treatments vary depending on the situation - they can range from wait-and-see, to radio waves, to surgical intervention. Yes, passing a kidney stone is painful - likened unto giving birth.

You may be prescribed drugs to help dissolve the kidney stones into the blood while consuming more hydrating fluid. If that does not work, you may be told to use ultrasonic treatment to break up the kidney stone so that it can be turned into dust and small pellets. Those pieces would then come out during urination.

A kidney stone in a male is painful so long as the stone is there in the kidney. Better get it operated out and the operation is a minor one.

Yes they are painful. Either the kidney stones have to pass on there own. Or you may need to have them removed, and that would be painful too.
