On March 26, 1969, Texas passed legislation making Blue Topaz the state gemstone. (Petrified Palmwood became the state stone via the same legislation.) Blue topaz is created by irradiating colorless topaz. Jewelers create the Lone Star cut by faceting the stone in a way that leaves the outline of a dark blue star in the middle.

Blue Topaz is the Texas gemstone. It was adopted as the state stone in March 26, 1969. It is often cut in the lone star cut. This cut displays a 5 pointed star. You can dig for blue topaz in Manor county. Although often thought of as being sky blue, this color is actually very rare in nature.

The Texas state gemstone is the blue topaz. It comes in many shades of blue, and is the most popular color of the topaz jewel used in jewelry pieces. Texas State Legislation adopted it as the states official gemstone on March 26, 1969.
