Well VIN stands for vehicle identification number. You could compare this to your own social security number. It is a unique 13 digit number that is issued to every car that gets built. It contain specific information about a car like the manufacturer and the model. It is used to identify a vehicle throughout it's life.

Its a serial number from the car's manufacturer and each number or letter has a meaning. The first 3 numbers or letters are to identify the manufacturer, the next five are to describe the vehicle, theres one for accuracy check, then the last 5 to identify the vehicle.
