Alcohol poisoning is a serious medical condition that can cause death if not treated properly. It is usually associated with drinking excessively, as in FAR more than normal. A bad hangover may result in you wishing you were dead, but it will not bring you that kind of relief.

Even the pleasant effects of alcohol are a form of poisoning. A hangover is caused by both alcohol's poisonous qualities and dehydration. If someone is in any real danger from alcohol poisoning, however, they won't be coherent or conscious.
