The EPA recommends finding a local business or organization that is equipped to dismantle and dispose of electronics equipment. Best Buy has instituted an electronics recycling program in most of their stores, accepting many pieces of electronics equipment for free. They do charge a $10 fee for some larger items, but provide you with a $10 gift card as well.

If your area has a recycling facility that is able to handle older electronics, that is best. Otherwise, if it is in working condition, you can donate it to goodwill place it on an online ad site. Older VCRs should not be trashed. They can contain toxic substances like mercury.

If it is in working condition consider selling it. Also you can make a donation to a local thrift store. You can also recycle the VCR. Check if your local big box electronics store provides recycling. Also some communities provide curbside pickup of electronic items or have a recycling centers you can bring it to.

Take it to an electronics recycling facility near you. You can check to see if your city trash collectors will take it. You can also look for schools or other organizations that hold electronics recycling drives.

IT depends on it's condition. If it works you could try selling it or donate it to charity. Otherwise you can take it somewhere that recycles electronics.
