Bass guitars, as with regular guitars, is a matter of preference. It's not the name but what feels best to you. Some bass players I know favor Fender whereas others prefer other makes. It is just a matter of choice for the musician.

I have always been partial to fender. Their products are well made, appropriately priced, and are excellent quality instruments. It is most important to find an instrument you like.

While this is a matter of opinion, I believe the best bass brand is Warwick. Warwicks always have a great sound, even the cheaper models sound great. I own a Warwick Corvette Double Buck Neck-Thru Bass, it is one of the most wonderful things I own. It is a gorgeous instrument and I play it on stage with my band.

Many people would swear that Alembic are best, others would say Fender, or Wal, or Music Man, or even Rickenbacker. Jack Bruce used a Gibson in Cream. Warwick do some nice models. A lot of the "bass sound" comes from the amp you use. You can't say there is one "best" brand. You have to judge the bass/amp combination.

In my way of thinking there is only one bass. So this is an easy question to answer, the best bass is definitely a Rickenbacker Bass. They have been the preferred instrument of many famous rock and roll bands, professional musicians, and just everyday normal bass players. The Beatles probably did the most to help Rickenbacker.
