Bass pickups can range in price from very inexpensive, to outrageously expensive. EMG makes several models of great sounding pickups. I prefer active pickup, but needing to replace batteries can get old. If this is bothersome to you, I would suggest passive pickups from another quality brand such as Seymour Duncan.
