If given proper medical care, attention and food (unlimited grass hay, 1/4 cup timothy pellets and 1 cup good veggies like leaf lettuce, parsley, bell peppers and the occasional carrot/tomato/cucumber), they can live 6-8 years or more.

I owned a guinea pig and it lived for 8 years. I looked around and some sites say any where from 4-7 years but I think it all depends on how you care for them. I did the whole yearly vet checks.

Even though a guinea pig may live for as long as 9 or 10 years, the average life expectancy for a guinea pig is between 5 years and 7 years.

If they are properly cared for (given fresh leafy veg, proper pellets and grass hay like Oxbow) and taken to the vet's regularly and especially when ill, they can live 6-8 years or more. However, cavies are prone to many illnesses just like humans and some only live 3-4 years.

Most guinea pigs live at least 6 years and up to 9 years if they are given a proper diet and proper medical care. One of ours reached 8 1/2.
