car repairs

Question by  NikkiD65 (34)

What is the average cost to change a catalytic converter on a Jeep Cherokee?

I have an idea that I will need to replace the catalytic converter soon on my Jeep and want to make sure I have enough funds to cover it, labor and parts please.

The catalytic converter will cost $150-$200. Labor should only be about $50 or so because it's a simple process to replace this converter. If there is any serious rust on the exhaust system, this will need to be repaired too costing a little more money.

It is probably a $400 job. But if i were you I would buy a bolt on converter off ebay and do it yourself. The bolt on versions are usualy $150 and they will be better quality than what the shop will put on there. And it is such an easy job. (2 gaskets 6 bolts and possibly sensor swap)

It will depend on the year of the Jeep- older jeeps will cost more, but you can anticipate 10-12 hours of labor at $40-$50 plus $225 or more for parts.
