An individual who is arrested and not convicted may petition to have the record sealed or expunged 5 (misdemeanor) or 10 (felony) years after dismissal. Sealed records still exist and may be seen by certain officials. Thee legislature may unseal them. Expunged records, on the other hand are erased forever.

There are such a number of statutes and laws, because of differing circumstances, that I can't list them here- you can google this and get a listing of the circumstances. However, your first step is to petition the court. You can do this w/out a lawyer with a little research.

You can often get something expunged from your records after paying large sums of money to an attorney and you can get your record sealed the same way.

In Texas you may expunge any arrest that did NOT lead to a finding of guilt (guilty plea, no contest or lost trial), as well as class "C" misdemeanors.

You will need to consult a lawyer to find out. The lawyer can tell you more about what you need to know. The lawyer is the only one that can tell you.
