Plants do well in terra-cotta pots because it allows the roots to keep moisture longer. Terra-cotta pots must be sealed to strengthen the clay and prevent permanent staining with age.

These are porous clay pots that allow soil to dry quickly, so plants in them should be watered more often, unless they are succulents that like drier soil. Make sure the pot has a drainage hole in the bottom. Between plantings, clean them thoroughly by first brushing the pot with a stiff brush, wash with soap and water, rinse thoroughly.

First. The pot should be immersed in water. This moistens the pot and avoids it drying out. Water plant as directed, but weekly, immerse total pot (avoiding soil).
