The desert rose does best when given full sun. Draining is important; therefore, choose a soil with either sand or peat moss, one preferably with a slightly acid composition.

Allow the plant to have plenty of downward growth area for the roots to extend into the ground. Do not overwater. Being a succulent plant it requires minimal watering. Depending on the size it may only require 1/2-2 cups of water every 2 days. Be sure to protect it from the colder weather changes.

Desert roses should be planted in full sun with adequate space between plants for air circulation to prevent mildew. They need to be kept watered but with good drainage to prevent root rot. Protect from freezing.

Direct sunlight is a must for these plants. Thriving at temperatures up to 90 degrees and not surviving too many hours below 40 degrees. In humid places like Florida, they can also develop plant diseases. A critical element to success with the Desert Rose is restricted soil moisture.
