What is proper dress for a mother at her son's wedding?

The last thing you want is to be labeled as the scandalous mother, stealing her daughter-in-law's day. So my suggestion is to cover up! Long sleeves rule.

A formal gown is appropriate, though an evening gown is acceptable if it fits the colors of the wedding party.

The mothers clothing should do nothing to take away attention from her son or especially the bride. The colors should compliment to venue but not be the same color as the wedding party or theme and not white of course. No revealing outfits. A dress with a matching jacket will suffice as appropriate attire.

For her son's wedding a mom should wear a demure but stylish dress. Avoid cleavage, and too much leg. Mom's shouldn't look like they are looking for a hot date with the dj after the reception. On the same token she doesn't want to be mistaken for the groom's grandmother either.
