A cocktail dress is very appropriate for an evening wedding. Evening weddings are usually more formal, so it's a great choice. Unless the invitation has a designated dress code, cocktail attire is appropriate.

I have seen people where cocktail dresses. I think it is fine unless it stand out more then the bride. You just don't want to stand out more, unless you don't like the bride. Think of the wedding as prom. if you would wear it to prom then you can wear it to the wedding

Evening weddings are casual wear. Unless it is held outside on a farm. Cocktail dresses are appropriate for this atmosphere. Just don't be to overdressed or outdress the bride or the bridesmaids. People dress to casually for these occasions. This is a cause for a celebration and you should dress with style.

A cocktail dress is appropriate for a wedding in most cases. If the invitation does not specify a dress code than a cocktail dress should certainly be an acceptable thing to wear.

Ir would certainly stand out and the last thing you want to do is to upstage the bride at her ouwn wedding, so dress more appropriately,
